Benefit of good haulroad and requirements

Haulroad:Type of haulroad has a profound influence on operation of the mine,it is life line of an open cast mine.                                                                                                                                 Benefits of a good haulroad:(a)High production because of increased dumper speed.       (b)Better safety.     (C) Reduction in maintenance and less machine breakdowns.    (D) Saving in diesel,tyres,spares. (E)Lesser operator fatigue,high morale.                                                                                                                  Essential requirements: Width of haulroad should be not less than 3times the width of largest dumper plus 5m.As far as possible,haulroad should be straight.Corners and bends,if any should be so designed that operator can have a clear vews of the road a head for not less than 3times the dumper braking distance (operating at 40kmph). where this is not possible,separate roads should be provided for up and down trafic.each of width not less than 2times the width of largest dumper plus 3m,width a driver and lights in between. Gradient should not exceed 1 in 16. Gradients of ramps may be 1 in 10 but not more than 10m at a stretch.with permission from DGMS. Portions of haulroad a bove the surrounding ground should be provided with strong parapet wall or embankment of the following minimum dimensions:।                                                                                  Top Width     1m.                                                  Bottom width  2.5m.                                             Height    equal to dumper tyre dia.                                                                                      Where 35t or larger dumper are used,a separate road should be provided for light vehicle of maintenance/supervisory personal.If it is adjacent to the haulroad, suitable fencing should be provided between the two.Road surface and road bed should be designed on a scientific basic considering nature of ground,dumper size,climatic conditions etc.Road sign should be provided at strategic places.

Audio visual alarm

  When a truck or dumper backs up a person standing behind the vehicle may get crushed.To alert such a person truck/dumpers are provided with audio visual alarm.As soon as the vechile is put in reverse gear, a special horn starts blowing and the backlight flashes.It is a statutory requirements that truck,dumper or loader shall not be run unless the audio visual alarm is working.
