Describe the equipment and organisations for fire fighting in a mine

Equipment and organisation for fire fighting:                                                             1-Water :-Adequate quantity of water at sufficient pressure shall be made available at all working place underground mines and all other place of fire risk.Taps shall be provided at not more than 120m apart.Hose pipes of not less than 60m length shall be available at suitable place.   2-Fire station:-Fire station,with suitable fire fighting equipment,shall be established and kept maintained at convenient places,on surface and u.g.
        3-SAND,INCOMBUSTIBLE DUST,FIRE EXTINGUISHERS:-                                               

 Sufficient supply of sand incombustible dust and portable fire extinguisher shall be provided at-  (I) entrance to every district,landing shaft bottom and entrance to mine.(ii)Every place where timber,grease,or other inflammable materials is stored.(iii)every engine room, electrical gear,driver unit of roadway conveyor,disel engine maintenance work shop,oil filling station, battery charging station.(iv)   other places of fire risk.                                                                                    4-Fire fighting plan:-                                                   A fire fighting plan shall be made on scale of 1:2000 showing water mains,taps,fire station, pumping station, ventilation system,escape routes etc. Copies of the plan shall be posted in the mine office and at suitable places u.g.   

                                                                         5-Training:-                                                                     Adequate number of person shall be trained in the use of fire extinguisher and in fire fighting.They shall be made familiar with the location of all fire fighting equipment.  Soda-acid fire extinguisher or water shall not be used for oil or electrical fires. Foam type shall not be used for electrical fire,and fire extinguisher giving off poisonous or noxious gases shall not be used u.g. 
                                                                                                                                                    6--Maintenance:-                                                          A competent person shall examine all equipment, material and arrangements at least once a month,He shall discharge and refill fire extinguisher as often as required.                                                                                                                   7- Standing Orders:-                                                  Manger shall frame standing orders laying the procedure of giving warning of fire,withdrawal of person,condut of fire fighting operations etc. 
                                                                                                         8-Telephone:-                                                                    Telephone shall be installed at appropriate places for speedy communication of information. 
                                                                                                                                                    9-Rehearsals:-                                                  Rehearsal shall be conducted once a quarter.

  When a truck or dumper backs up a person standing behind the vehicle may get crushed.To alert such a person truck/dumpers are provided with audio visual alarm.As soon as the vechile is put in reverse gear, a special horn starts blowing and the backlight flashes.It is a statutory requirements that truck,dumper or loader shall not be run unless the audio visual alarm is working.
