Devlopment over caved seam                          Dangers and difficulties :                               Difficulty in houlage and movement of machinery due to change of floor gradient from place to place.Difficulty in roof support due to fracture in strata.Leakage of ventilation due to cracks in floor.Eruption of black damp from the lower seam.Danger of entry of water from goaf of lower seam.                                                              Precautions:                                                         Commencing work in the upper seam only after the lower seam goaf has setteled.Goaf may take 3-5 years to settle.Work in upper seam only if parting between the seams is adequate.(more than 12 times the extraction height in lower seam).Forced ventilation system.Extra care in gas detection.Use of main and tail houlage.Manual loading of coal as deployment of SDL/LHD is difficult.Pumping of water from the lower seam.Special care in roof support.

  When a truck or dumper backs up a person standing behind the vehicle may get crushed.To alert such a person truck/dumpers are provided with audio visual alarm.As soon as the vechile is put in reverse gear, a special horn starts blowing and the backlight flashes.It is a statutory requirements that truck,dumper or loader shall not be run unless the audio visual alarm is working.
