Dump shall be formed on stable ground if floor is slippery,it shall be roughed up by blasting or ripping to a depth of 1-1.5m.Soft material like soil shall not be dumped at the fllor.Slope of OB   dump shall be determined by natural angle of repose of material being deposited but it shall not exceed 37.5°from the horizontal.Dump face shall not be retained by artificial means at an angle in excess of its natural angle of repose.Dump height should be designed on scientific basis.If dump height is more than 30m,it shall be benched and the bench height shall not exceed 30m.Toe of the dump shall not be permitted to approach railway or road public works or building closer than a distance equal to height of the dump.A fence shall be erected around the advancing toe of the dump at a distance not less than height of the dump to prevent person approaching the dump.Water shall not be allowed to accumulate in or around the OB dump.Dumps shall be inspected in every shift. Precautions in making OB dump in a dragline mine:                                                                            Height and slope of dump face should be designed by a research institute based on type of OB,seam dip,nature of floor, drainage,reach and dumping height of dragline production etc.Interface layer I.e.debris or coal dust,fragmented rock soil mixed with water should be cleared as far as possible from the de-coaled floor    before dumping by dragline starts.If it cannot be avoided,the floor should be ripped or blasted to a depth of 1-1.5m before start of dumping by dragline to improve frictional resistance at base  of the dump.Top soil should be dumped separately.Under no circumstances should such material be placed at base of the dump.OB excavated ...

  Precautions by shovel cable man: At beginning of the shift shovel cable man should inspect the cable.In case of damage he should immediately inform shovel operator and competent person.While handling cable he shall use Safety hand gloves.He should pay attention to signal given by shovel operator.When shovel is to be marched a head he should keep the cable loose so that it is not pulled by the machine. During backward movement of the shovel he should shift the cable to avoid it being crushed.Cable should be kept away from water muck and in a safe position to prevent damage by shovel, dumper,dozer or falling builders.He should not allowed kink in Cable and keep it coiled in shape of fingers eight.He should not sit on the cable.He should remain at a safe distance from the shovel in operation and from the face by sides.He should wear shoes helmet and reflective jacket.He should not sleep while on duty.
