First-aid station

First-aid  station is a place fixed by the manger for rendering first-aid to person injured.Every first-aid station is provided with equipment as prescribed in the Third schedule of mines Rules namely: a stretcher and two blanket,Sets of splints(1.4m,0.9m,0.3m,)and sufficient tringular bandages.First-aid boxes(or cupboards),one per150 person,containin sufficient supply of large and small dressings and burn dressings,sufficient supply of sterilised cotton and adhesive plaster,roller bandages,Dettol or other antiseptic solution,a tourniquet,scissors and safety pins,soap.                                                  First aid station shall be provided at the following places On surface:-                     At pit top/incline mouth.In workshop,screening plant and    ...

  Arrangements for first-aid                               According to mines rules1955,the following arrangements are made for first-aid in mines: First-aid Room on surface      First-aid station at specified place on surface,in opencast mines and in underground working.First-aid out fit with every overman,mining Sirdar,shotfirer,fitter and electrician.Ambulance van                    First-aid training to maximum number of employees, and refresher training to first-aid certificate holders.

Main types of fencings used in mine

  Two main types of fencings used below ground are U-1 and U-2.                                      U-1  Wire ropes(or rope strand,barbed wires or rollas)nailed to vertical props set flush on sides of the gallery.Gap of bottom most member from floor 0.25m, between other members 0.3m,top not less than one meter from ground. U-2  fence is used at :Goaf edges, areas of roof fall ,place of misfire ,place of accumulation of gas,Site of accident. It consists of two wire ropes(or rope strands,barbed wires or wooden rooles)fixed with cement in sides of pillars across the gallery at a height of about 0.6m and 1.0m respectively. U-2 is used at entries to disused galleries.

Plan for fire fighting

  At every underground mines fire fighting plan is to be kept maintained,and a copy thereof posted in the mine office and at convenient places below ground.This plan is like a ventilation plan of the mine showing in particular the following:  system of ventilation of the mine,Position of fire fighting equipment,I.e    -fire station(with details of equipment);              -pumping station,water pipe lines and taps. Emergency exit routes.  Places vulnerable to fire,such as electrical sub stations,belt conveyor drive heads,place where inflammable materials are stored.The plan shall be kept up dated.Persons trained in fire fighting shall be made conversant with this plan.

Return airway in smell at mines

Every walkable entrance from surface shall be provided with a substantial gate.The gate shall be kept closed and locked when there are no person below ground.
