Blasting holes in open cast mines cast mines

The block to be drilled shall be dozed to remove loose material and boulders.Hole position shall be marked by blasting overman using measuring tape and depth of each hole shall also be marked.Holes shall not be placed in cracked zone.At shift beginning,drill operator shall be check the machine-control,crown block, hydraulic system,brake,lights, emergency trip,availability of the fire extinguisher,hoses not leaking etc.Machine shall not be taken closer than 3meter from bench adge.It shall be at right angles to the edge.Drill shall be levelled and jacks tightened before commencing to drill.Holes shall be drilled at the marked places and to correct depth.Drilling shall always be in retreating fasion I.e.towards the supply switch.While retreating,cable shall be wound on cable reel.If there is no cable reel,it shall be picked up and placed on cable hanger.Cable shall not be dragged over drilled holes.Trailing cable shall not be unfolded from the cable reel fully at least one loo...

Audio visual alarm

  When a truck or dumper backs up a person standing behind the vehicle may get crushed.To alert such a person truck/dumpers are provided with audio visual alarm.As soon as the vechile is put in reverse gear, a special horn starts blowing and the backlight flashes.It is a statutory requirements that truck,dumper or loader shall not be run unless the audio visual alarm is working.

Hours of work in a mine below ground

  No person shall be engaged in a mine below ground for more than 48 hours in a week or more than 8 hours in a day.Work shall be done in shifts not extending to more than 8hours.If for any reason,a  person is engaged for more than 48 hours in a week or 8hours in a day,he shall be paid wages at duble the normal rate of wages for the overtime.No person shall be engaged on any day for more than 10hours, including overtime,except in case of:                                                            -Serious Danger to safety of mine or persons employed therein. An accident actual or apprehended.Works necessary to be kept continued.Any act of God.

DUTIES OF TRUCK/DUMPER OPERATORS

Before commencing work,truck driver or dumper operator shall check the vehicle-especially brake,parking brake, emergency break,steering,horn, audio-visual alarm,tyre pressure.If he finds any defect which is likely to make driving unsafe,he shall report the matter to the competent person and shall not operate it until the defects has been rectified.He shall write report of his inspection.   Windshield shall be kept clean. Before moving the dumper,he shall blow horn.He shall not drive the vehicle at an excessive speed keep it under control at all times,and pay attention to road sign.He shall negotiate downhill gradient in low gear so that minimum breaking is required.He shall keep sufficient distance from the vehicle a head,particularly from a vehicle with twin rear wheels from which a stone piece,wedged between the tyres,may fly back into wind screen of his vehicle.He shall not attempted to overtake another vehicle unless he can see clearly far a head to be sure he can pass it safel...

Precautions after a fire has broken out

  On the appearance in any part of a mine,of smoke or other singns indicating that a fire or spontaneous heating has or may have broken out. Effectively step shall be taken without delay to deal with the fire or heating and all person other than those whose presence in the mine is deemed necessary for dealing with fire or heating shall be immediately withdrawn from the mine.No person other than those required for dealing with or sealing off the fire or heating,shall be redmitted in the mine untill the fire or heating has been extinguished or effectively sealed off and an examination has been made by the manager and the mine has been declared to be safe. A report of every such examination shall be recorded in a bound paged book keept for the purpose and shall be signed and dated by the person making the examination. Powers of Inspectors

If in any mine or part thereof,it's appears to the Regional Inspector that the provisions of regulations  98,100,99 and 102 or any order issued under any of these regulations have not been complied with,he may give notice in writing to the owner,agent or manager requiring him to take such protective measures,within such time,as he may specify in the notice.In case of non compliance with the requirement of the notice,the Regional Inspector may,by an order in writing, prohibited the extraction of coal in the parts of the mine in which protective measures are required to be taken,until the requirement specified in the notice are complied with.

Splits and Air ways

 For the purpose of ventilation,every mine shall be divided into such number of district or splits as toensure that separate current of fresh air is made available in every such district or split.The intake air shall be arranged as to travel awey from all stagnant water.In every fiery seam or gassy seam of the second or third degree,for every ventilating district there shall be provided two main intake airways one of which shall be used as a travelling road ways.Provided that if the Regional Inspector is satisfied that compliance with this regulations is not reasonably practicable,he may,by an order in writing and subject to such conditions as he may specify therein,grant exemption from the rovision thereof.Every connection between a main intake airway and a main return airway shall,until it has ceased to be required and has been sealed off,be provided with at least to door so spaced that whenever one door is opened,the other door can be kept closed.Steps shall be taken...
